Brief Introduction to the School

 Beijing Chinese language school was founded in 1950. It is the unique school of higher learning in China that specialized in offering classes in Chinese language and culture to overseas students. The school also promotes cultural exchanges and friendly relation-ships between China and other countries.
  The school has a faculty of experienced teachers with deep love of teaching Chinese and with an understanding of overseas students. Currently, the school has received more than 40, 000; students from 48 countries and districts round the globe. Over1,000 overseas professionals have come to the school to exchange ideas on the methods and materials of teaching Chinese language. Academic facilities, which are well stocked with rich store of learning materials, include language laboratories, an audiovisual practice room, an internet room, a multimedia room, a library, a reference room and reading room. Recreation facilities include a basketball playground, a gymnasium, a dance hall, a billiard room, and a table tennis room. Double bed room facilities include central air conditioner, telephone, color TV, bathroom with hot water for 24 hours. Shared facilities in the building include washing machines and electronic stoves, an internet room, a cafeteria, a laundry room, a clinic and a student store. A motorcade of the college is always ready to serve the students for sightseeing trips.
  Beijing Chinese language school offers three different courses of(1) Chinese language mastery curriculum includes elementary, intermediate and advanced programs.(2)An educational enrichment program features summer and winter expeditions to places of interest all over of China. (3)A professional program offers training to overseas teachers of Chinese language.
 
Entrance Procedures

1. Semester Calendar
 Fall semester runs from September to January.
  Spring semester runs from February to July.

2. Admissions:
  At the age of 16 to 40, who either graduated from senior high school or have the same educational levels, and who must be in good health and have good behavior.
3. Time of Application
  The school enrolls students at both spring and fall semesters in February September. Applicants should submit a completed application form and a copy of high school diploma or equivalent to the Admission Office before July for the fall semester and January for the spring semester. Students who are accepted will receive an Admission Notice before August for the fall semester and February for the spring semester.
4. Registration Procedures
  1) New students should register during the specified time.
  2) Bring the following:
  a. Admission Notice of the College.
  b. Passport (Students must have obtained an “X” student  entry visa at the Chinese consulate of his or her  country).
  c. Previous educational transcripts.
  d. Photos required:
  Five copies of one-inch.
  Four copies of two-inch.
5. Physical Exam
  Upon admittance, new students must take a physical exam at their own expense by a designated medical authority. Anyone found to be unsuitable for study at the school should make immediate plans for departure. Those who have received physical exams before entering China must show their original medical certificates as proofs.
6. The Law of China , School Rules and Regulations
 Students who break the law of China shall be asked to leave the school. Students who break school rules and regulations and who refuse to mend their ways, despite warnings, shall also be asked to leave the school.
Curriculum and Class Levels:

 At present, Beijing Chinese Language school offers 14 courses in Chinese language, and additional elective courses in Chinese culture. Each of the one-year language programs is at least 800 class hours per year; the elective courses in Chinese culture are at least 80 class hours per year. The school also organizes frequent tours and special sessions to enhance an understanding of Chinese history and culture.
  After registration, each student will take an entry test to assure proper placement according to his or her ability level; elementary, intermediate, or advanced. At the end of the semester, all students will be required to take Examinations for completion of the courses and to take an exit test, the HSK (the official Chinese Language Proficiency Test).
  At graduation, certificates of completion and diplomas will be issued to all students who have passed the above examinations along with an official HSK certificate specifying the level of language achievement.
1. Elementary Level of Chinese Language Study
  Main Courses: Intensive Reading in Chinese, Extensive Reading in Chinese, Chinese speaking and Listening Comprehension, Writing of Chinese Characters.
  Students will master 2,411 common Chinese words (written and spoken) and 185 basic Chinese grammar items. Students will carry on simple conversations in Chinese. Students will read and write simple sentences in Chinese.
2. Intermediate level of Chinese Language Study
  Main Courses: Modern Chinese, Chinese composition, Listening Comprehension, Chinese Conversation, Reading of Selected Newspaper and Magazine Articles, Watching, Listening and Speaking, Commercial Chinese.
  Students will master 2,850 Chinese words (written and spoken). Students will master about 8 Chinese grammar items of intermediate level. Students will converse fluently in Chinese.
3. Advanced Chinese Language Study
  Main Courses: Modern Chinese, Advanced Chinese Composition, Reading of Selected Newspaper and Magazine Articles, Advanced Cultural Knowledge, Advanced Commercial Chinese, Chinese Grammar.
  Students will master about 2,800 Chinese words and about 100 Chinese grammar items of advanced level. Students will understand basic theories of Chinese language and essential cultural background. Students will qualify as Chinese language secretaries, Chinese translators and teachers of Chinese language.
4. Specialized Courses, Lectures, and Presentations in Chinese
   Culture Specialized courses include Traditional Chinese Painting, Chinese calligraphy, Wu Shu (Chinese Martial Arts), Chinese Music and Dance, Chinese Language Computer Programs.
  Lectures may be presented on such subjects as Chinese
  Opera, Chinese History, and Chinese Geography
  Presentations on other Chinese subjects of interest may also  be scheduled.
College Fees


  The school Fees are US $2,950 per semester. This fee covers tuition, dormitory room, and educational materials including textbooks, insurance, field trips and recreation. Cafeteria food is not included. College fees are not refundable to students who depart from the school or are suspended from study after term begins.
