2006 US Educators Trip To China

An Invitation From Han Ban

For years, Chinese language teachers at American high schools, both public and private, have wished that their superintendents, principals or supervisors could have the opportunity to visit China.  Their hope has been that if administrators could experience China in person, they would realize the significance of teaching Chinese to today's young Americans, and in turn lend their full support to existing Chinese programs.

We are very pleased to announce that through the collaborative efforts of the Chinese Language Association of Secondary-Elementary Schools (CLASS), the Hope Education Foundation (HEF) and the National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (Hanban) this long-standing wish has finally become a reality. Under the arrangement of the Hope Education Foundation, the Hanban formally extends an invitation to 33 American educators to visit China. Eligible participants include District Superintendents, Deputy Superintendents, School Principals/Headmasters, Vice-Principals/Assistant Headmasters and Foreign Language Supervisors. On this trip, the educators will tour the cities of Beijing, Shanghai and Suzhou for 8 days, from April 12-19, or June 26-July 3, or December 8-15 2006.  The group will also observe a preschool native language instruction, visit schools that offer Chinese as a foreign language; learn about an internet language teaching project currently being conducted between China and America; discuss possible collaborations between the US Schools and China's Hanban programs; and meet with representatives from the Chinese Ministry of Education.  All expenses in China for this trip will be covered by the Hanban.

The US Educators Trip to China started in 2005. The first trip was a great success. There were a total of 33 US educators participated in last year's project. The evaluation of the trip indicated a high 90% satisfactory rate. Many educators requested to keep this project going. Based on their requests, this year, the project is accepting applications from all over the United States. We will try as much as we could to accommodate the qualified educators who register before the deadline.
